free boombox

Free JVC Stereo boombox, w/ CD plaayer, double tape deck (for dubbing your favorite mixes), and FM/AM radio. I just upgraded to something smaller with an iPhone slot (I know, I know). This guy's been around since the mid 90s and still works pretty well. Had the CD player professionally cleaned at some point so it doesn't skip despite its age. Sounds pretty decent for it's class. No AUX inputs however, but I will throw in a tape adapter you can use for plugging in an MP3 player. (What a deal!)

Network/Drink: Pink Slip Parties
The first Tues of every month at Boe at the Crescent: 403 N Crescent Dr, Beverly Hills; 310.247.0505

This monthly recession-inspired fest takes half-off all of Boe's gourmet apps (eg, baked Brie w/sun-dried tomatoes, mini curry burgers), drops prices to $5 on select drinks made with Pink vodka, and brings in recruiting agencies, because drunken interviewing is supremely entertaining. This month, there's Swan Legal Search, restaurant-biz peeps DD Factor and Associates, the corporate-leaning AppleOne, and Robert Half Accountemps -- hiring out-of-work financial types, who've just discovered how the other Robert Half lives.

laugh biz

The Ice House Comedy Club in Pasadena will soon be looking for a cashier-type person to help them during the days for a couple days a week. Apparently someone is leaving.

Don't know how much they're paying.
Sean is the name of the guy in charge, but you didn't hear it from me.

free doughnuts

"Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is honoring American's sense of pride and freedom of choice on Inauguration Day, by offering a free doughnut of choice to every customer on this historic day, Jan. 20. By doing so, participating Krispy Kreme stores nationwide are making an oath to tasty goodies – just another reminder of how oh-so-sweet "free" can be."

Today's findings

Shop in your closet - a make-do website after my own heart... or holy socks. anyway, "thrift is a virtue men like to find in women" (see below)

The Recently Deflowered Girl - I have a weakness for etiquette books. this might be my favorite. too bad a copy costs upwards of $125. a girl can get deflowered in so many ways!
